The walls of the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) Kenora CityView office have received a face-lift in the form of a newly donated art project from St. Louis School's Visual Arts Group. The painting entitled 'Together' was developed and created entirely by the group of six students under the guidance of local artist Holly Ann Friesen, the 'artist in house' for St. Louis School.

"We believe that when people experience success in any one domain, this will transfer over to other areas and increase the likelihood of future successes. With this in mind, St. Louis School's Visual Arts Group was created to help students recognize their amazing talents and potential through art, the medium they connect to," says Marnie Buffett, Learning Resource Teacher at St. Louis School. She continues, "Ultimately, we believe this group positively impacts the emotional health and well-being of its participants. This is very much a shared vision with the NWHU. They affirm and validate this gifted group of artists by displaying their work in the health unit facility for all to enjoy."

School and health unit staff, students and parents, and other community members or partners attended the art unveiling ceremony hosted on March 22, 2017, at the Kenora CityView office building.

"Schools have always been valued and important partners for the NWHU, supporting school health programming and campaigns, and strategies to make our school environments healthier for students and educators," shares Mark Perrault, Chief Executive Officer for the NWHU. "We are very excited that this most recent partnership will brighten up our hallways with student art."

In 2016, the NWHU signed formal partnership agreements with each of the four school boards in Northwestern Ontario, a step that has and will continue to strengthen our work with staff and students across the region. Working with each school to address their unique health priorities will help schools offer their students the highest level of health and wellness.
