Students at the Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB) will have the opportunity to learn soccer skills from the pros! The board recently launched a 10-week Soccer Skills Development Program in partnership with the Kenora Athletic Soccer Club (K.A.S.C.).

"Our team has been working with the K.A.S.C. for months planning the after school Soccer Skills Development Program, getting it ready for a spring launch and we are very excited to see it get started next week," says Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education. "We've got a lineup of highly experienced coaches and it's going to be a lot of fun and a great experience for our students. We'd like to extend our gratitude to everyone who has been working on the development of this program. We'd like to recognize the partnership established with the K.A.S.C. and thank them for working with us to offer this level of programming to our students."

Students in grades 1 - 6 recently received enrolment packages to sign up for the 10-week program which begins on April 12th and 13th. The program will be offered on the Catholic Campus and at the Kenora Sports Complex.

Megan Derouard, Active Living Lead for the board talks about the response, "we sent enrolment packages out a few weeks ago and the response has been amazing. We had to extend our enrolment at both the primary and junior levels to meet the demand and we still have a waiting list. Our intention is that this will be an ongoing partnership and program."

The Soccer Skills Development Program is designed to build soccer skills and overall athleticism as well as promoting teamwork, team play and tactical skills. Students from Pope John Paul II School, St. Louis School and École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys will also have an opportunity to participate in the program together to develop new friendships. The program offers elementary students at the KCDSB soccer skills that will support their transition into team sports at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
