JasonThe Kenora Catholic District School Board is very excited to announce that Jason Cortvriendt has accepted a posi­tion with the board as our Social Worker. Jason will begin his new career with the board on August 31st and will be home-based within schools.

"The Social Worker position is a new position," says Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education. "We added this new position to our mental health services team because we believe it's important that we provide a wide variety of wrap-around support and services to our students and their families. We want our students to be successful in all aspects of their growth and development. Not only do we want our students to reach their full academic potential but we also want them to thrive as a whole person which includes the connection between mind, body and spirit. Jason will help us bring all of these important elements together to provide a holistic approach in how we nurture and support our students."

"I am excited to have the opportunity to work with the KCDSB in a supporting role as a Social Worker," says Jason Cortvriendt. "I have been working in the mental health field for a number of years and I am passionate about promoting healthy functioning and sharing tools and strategies that support a child's emotional development. Part of my approach is combining creativity, humor and compassion to develop strategies for positive outcomes. As part of the mental health services team our focus will be to create nurturing environments for young minds to grow and spirits to shine."

Jason has a Bachelor of Social Work which he achieved at the University of Manitoba and has extensive experience and knowledge in the Social Work field that he's achieved in Kenora. He is joining the Kenora Catholic District School Board from the Canadian Mental Health Association where he worked most recently as the Mental Health Therapist since 2011.

Role Description:
The Social Worker will work as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary mental health and safe schools team to pro­vide in-school services and programming to support students and families. The Social Worker will respond to referrals and initiate appropriate procedures and processes that will create connections with outside agencies. This position will play a particular role in creating programs and services to support student attendance.
