Message from the Director

This year we’ve had many successes, but the highlight was something simple – being together. We are grateful that throughout the 2021 – 2022 school year, our students and families could have a close to normal experience at school. Students learned with their peers and teachers in the classroom, prayed together as a community at prayer services, played sports, participated in extracurricular activities and field trips, danced at prom, and celebrated the graduating class of 2022 with friends, family, and community under the Whitecap Pavilion. We also made up for lost time, with Candy Cane Lane, Festival du Voyageur, arts, music and learning festivals, barbeques, school tours, an in-person spring pow wow, and we even had a Prancing Pony Portable Petting Zoo!

All of this was completed together as a community, and we’ve never been more grateful.

As we finish the last day of school today, I am grateful for the enthusiasm and efforts of students, staff, and families throughout the year in upholding our vision of excellence in Catholic education.

Take a breath and enjoy all that summer has to offer. My prayer is that everyone has a safe, restful, and joyful summer break.

Welcome to Nicole Kurtz

It has been a gift and an honour to work at the Kenora Catholic District School Board for 17 years and to serve as Director of Education in these final years. I am retiring knowing that I am leaving you in the caring, capable hands of Nicole Kurtz. She brings a wealth of experience, passion and empathy to the position and lives her life following her deep spirituality and faith. Nicole has over 25 years of experience in Catholic education and student achievement at the Kenora Catholic District School Board. It’s a profound moment that one of our former graduates will be your next Director of Education.

I welcome her as your incoming Director and know that the transition will be seamless. She will serve you well.

Thank You

Being a part of Catholic education for 30 years has been an incredible journey. Our team is a strong family rooted in faith, student success, equity and inclusion and mental health. The future of Kenora Catholic will continue to be successful with the support of our staff, families, and community.

These last couple of years have been challenging in so many ways. Thank you for your perseverance, enthusiasm in rising to the challenges, and willingness to change direction at a moment’s notice and do things differently in almost every aspect of your life. Above all, thank you for your support and all you do for students.

In the Anishinaabe culture of my family, we do not say farewell; we say until we see you again.

Miigwetch, Merci, and thank you.

Yours in Catholic education,

Paul White, Director of Education
