Students at St. John Paul II School were able to surprise their families with some hand-chosen gifts after another successful Christmas Shopping Day.

“The sale was amazing this year!” said education assistant and organizer Ang Harasemchuk. “It looked like we might be a little short as the day came closer but I put a call out saying we were in need and it came by the truck load.”

Harasemchuk continued to say items were donated by board staff, school staff, families and even Women’s Place Kenora.

Students spoke with their teachers prior to visiting the gym about who they would like to shop for. They then scoured all the items to find that just right thing for everyone on their list. The price was purely by donation of any amount.

Items varied from toys and stuffys to candles, ties, decorative signs and much more.“It is amazing to watch the kids they are so happy to get gifts for loved ones. Many take it very seriously and come in with an agenda. I think many receive the gifts right after school because the kids just can't wait to give them,” said Harasemchuk.

Harasemchuk said the money will all be put towards an exciting outdoor activity for the students in the spring, but for now it’s a secret!
