Grade 6 students in Kenora Catholic elementary schools enjoyed a day of ice fishing, skating, and more at Rabbit Lake this week. The event was a great opportunity for the Grade 6 students to get out and enjoy some winter activities.
“It was fun to do something outside with other schools,” said Kourtney Danielson. “I really loved cooking bannock on a stick.”
The Grade 6’s from St. Louis Living Arts, St. John Paul II School and École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys spent the day at Rabbit Lake visiting various stations. There was ice fishing, skating and hockey, cooking Bannock over the fire, hot chocolate and snowshoeing.
“It was a great experience to meet the people that you are going to be with in school next year. I loved being outside with my friends watching people play hockey,” said Trinity Van Aertselaer.
Experiential Learning Lead, Cindy Melechenko said it was a great to see all the kids’ smiles.
“Seeing all the smiles and students engaged in events that brought them happiness was terrific to see. It was cold, but the joy we could see on the children’s faces kept everyone warm,” she said.
The event was made possible with the generous help of the Kenora Youth Hub, Dunit Contracting, the Kenora Hospitality Alliance, T.R.I.P.L.E Play and Dan Devlin.
