We prayeAs a community we start this week with a sense of loss, as our country mourns the 215 children whose remains were found at the Kamloops Residential School in the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation territory.

The Kenora Catholic District School Board continues to focus on honouring the recommendations through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. This loss, further highlights to us, how important and instrumental to change the Calls to Action are. The Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action are a systemic change that will be at the forefront of all KCDSB decisions and processes, as we continue to move towards a more equitable and inclusive society.

Flags will be lowered this week at the Kenora Catholic District School Board. The KCDSB has sought and received permission from the Ministry of Education to lower its flags in honour of the lives and spirits of the 215 children, their families and everyone who has been touched by the residential school experience.

Children’s shoes are being placed at the Roundabout on Park Street in Kenora in honour of the children whose bodies were discovered at the Kamloops Residential School. We encourage staff to visit the roundabout to pay their respects to the innocent children whose lives were lost. You may also find comfort in visiting and praying at the memorial sites.

May we find reconciliation through service and compassion.
