Presentations and Delegations

Commissioning of Student Trustees
Student Trustees Joshua Pitt, Benjamin Favreau, and Jesse Peterson received their Rite of Commissioning ceremony as the incoming Student Trustees for the 2023 – 2024 School Year.

2023 Summer Learning Program
The Board received a presentation on the 2023 Summer Learning Program. The program ran for three weeks in July and had 44 students enrolled.

Education Services Presentations
The Board received presentations on the role, services, and goals of the Early Years Coordinator and Curriculum Coordinator.

Student Trustee Report
Student Trustees provided a report on the accomplishments, humanitarian activities, and events happening at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in September with a review of upcoming events for October.

Governance

2023 Staffing and Principal Assignment Reports
The Board received a report on the Principal and Vice Principal Assignments and an overview of new positions and transfers within the system for the 2023 – 2024 School Year.

Emergency Appointments
The Board approved a motion to authorize the Director of Education to invoke as required the emergency procedure (Reg. 298, 21) to appoint a person who is not a teacher or a temporary teacher, if no qualified teacher is available, for 10 days with the option to renew the appointment.

Program

Student Trustee Report
The Trustees received a report on the activities happening in each school at the Kenora Catholic District School Board in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which was recognized at the KCDSB on September 29. All students will be given an orange shirt designed by graduate, Kitana Blackhawk.

Students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School’s First Nation, Métis and Inuit Youth Council coordinated a Stop for Truth Flash Mob in Kenora to encourage the community to have a moment of silence for truth and reflection.

Initial Enrolment Report
The Trustees received an initial enrolment report by school. As of September 15, the KCDSB has increased by 36 students from projections, with an enrolment of 1,296 students. Enrolment is anticipated to fluctuate until the final enrolment count of October 31.
Changes to Board Meeting Dates for 2023 – 2024

The Trustees passed motions to reschedule the Board Meeting of Tuesday, November 21, 2023, to Monday, November 20, 2023, and the Board Meeting of Tuesday, March 19, 2024 to Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Presentations and Delegations

Education Services Presentations
The Board received presentations on the role, services, and goals of the Mental Health Clinical Supervisor, Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports Lead, Speech-Language Pathologist, Special Education Coordinator and Technology Enabled Learning and Teaching Lead.

Student Trustee Report

Governance

Policy #23 – Director of Education Performance Appraisal
The Board approved the revisions to Policy #23 – Director of Education Performance Appraisal. Updates were made to the policy to streamline the process.

Program

2020 – 2025 Multi-Year Strategic Plan Extension
The Board approved the extension of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan, which was originally planned to run from 2020 – 2025, to now encompass the years 2020 to 2027.

2023 – 2024 Math Action Plan
The Trustees approved the endorsement of the 2023 – 2024 Math Achievement Action Plan, with the initial report being submitted to the Ministry of Education by November 15, 2023.

2023 – 2024 Class Size Report
The Trustees approved the 2023 – 2024 Class Size Report, identifying that the Board is compliant in all areas with the Ontario Regulation 132/12 Class Size Legislation.

OCSTA 2023 Fall Regional Meeting Report
The Trustees received a report on the 2023 Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association Fall Regional Meeting held in Thunder Bay on October 6. The meeting was attended by regional Trustees and Directors of Education.
