He was nationally recognized for his leadership in 2014 by the Learning Partnership as one of Canada's Outstanding Principals. In 2016 he was appointed Superintendent of Instructional Services and became the Director of Education in January 2021.

In his last year, White has faced unique challenges and has been a steadfast leader at the helm, implementing various health and safety regulations to keep students and staff safe amid a global pandemic.

“This is one of the most challenging times in education to be a Director of Education, and we are grateful to have Paul White in this critical role over the past year”, says Teresa Gallik, Chair. “He has done an outstanding job in dealing with the evolving demands of the pandemic while also continuing to build a culture of excellence for student achievement, well-being and equity and creating alignment with the pillars of our strategic plan - Growing, Investing, and Engaging. He has also expanded relationships and partnerships with students, their families, the community and our First Nation, Métis and Inuit partners.”

“It has been my privilege and honour to serve as the Director of Education and I am proud to work with such a dedicated and amazing group of people at the Kenora Catholic District School Board,” says Paul White. “Together, we have risen to the many challenges, and we have celebrated many successes.”

In announcing his retirement, White said he has many projects to do, but he’s most looking forward to hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time with his family in Grassy Narrows. He adds that he is ready for the lifestyle change that comes with retirement.

Upon accepting White’s resignation, Teresa Gallik stated, "It is with regret that we pass this motion. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we wish Paul, his wife Elaine, and their children, Shania and Kendaaz, all the best in his retirement, knowing that we are truly fortunate to benefit from his strength in leadership. It has been my privilege to work with Paul White as Chair, and on behalf of the board, I would like to express our deep gratitude to him for his service and tireless dedication to the Kenora Catholic District School Board.”

The Board of Trustees will begin their work to replace Paul White. The Trustees have hired a recruitment advisor who will lead them in the process of recruiting and selecting a new Director of Education for the Kenora Catholic District School Board.
