Dr. Haime has served as the Director of Education for the Kenora Catholic District School Board since February 2019 and has accepted a position with the Ontario College of Teachers as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer to be closer to his family in southern Ontario.

The Kenora Catholic District School Board thanks Derek Haime for leading the board in the development of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan, Growing, Investing and Engaging, establishing a partnership with the Kenora Youth Wellness Hub to provide educational services to at-risk youth, safeguarding staff and students during an evolving global pandemic all while strengthening relationships with staff, families, parishes, and community partners.

“It has been a blessing to have Derek Haime serve Kenora Catholic as our Director over the past two years. His unwavering faith and deep commitment to students and families and progressive leadership style have positioned Kenora Catholic well during a critical time. We understand and support Derek’s decision to accept this prominent role as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer at the Ontario College of Teachers, and we know his ethics, personal integrity and deep commitment to education will serve Ontario’s 234,000 teachers well. We wish to thank his wife, Kelly Haime, and his family for gifting him to us for the past two years,” says Teresa Gallik, Chair.

Dr. Haime will assume his new role as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer for the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) effective January 1, 2021.

“I have been honoured and privileged to be part of the Kenora Catholic District School Board. I am most grateful for this faith-filled community that welcomed me so warmly. The people, the community, the connectedness, the culture, the family-feeling have had a profound impact on me. There is a culture of kindness at Kenora Catholic that I will take with me and spread it where I go.”

Paul White Superintendent of Instructional Services has accepted the role of Director of Education effective January 1, 2021. Paul White has been with the Board for 16 years and was named one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals in 2014 by the Learning Partnership. He has served as a Teacher, Vice Principal and Principal and has held the role of Superintendent since 2016.

“We are blessed at Kenora Catholic with an incredible staff and many exceptional leaders in various capacities and a strong succession plan to support leadership growth across the Board,” says Teresa Gallik. “We are looking forward to working with Paul White as he continues the implementation of our new strategic plan – Growing, Investing and Engaging that will guide us over the next five years.”

Trustees will accept Derek Haime’s resignation and appoint Paul White, Director of Education at their December 15, 2020, Annual Board Meeting, where these announcements will become official. At the meeting, Trustees will also host elections for the position of Chair and Vice Chair.
