The appointment was announced at the April 19, Board Meeting.

“It is with great joy that we announce that Nicole Kurtz will be the next Director of Education at the Kenora Catholic District School Board,” says Teresa Gallik, Chair. “She brings a wealth of experience to the position and lives her life through her deep spirituality and faith, always following her Catholic values as her guiding light. She is a dynamic, dedicated, experienced, caring, and compassionate leader and part of the foundation of what makes our school board feel like a family. We have full confidence that she will continue to uphold and enhance the legacy of excellence in Catholic education that has been the cornerstone of our system. It’s a profound moment and a true blessing that we can name one of our graduates as our next Director of Education.”

Currently a Superintendent of Instructional Services, Nicole Kurtz has over 25 years of experience in Catholic education and student achievement at the Kenora Catholic District School Board. She has been a Principal at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys, providing her with leadership experience in the secondary and elementary panels. She has first-hand experience in mental heath and student well-being from her time as a Guidance Councellor and she has taught at all grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade 12 throughout her career at Kenora Catholic.

“I am truly honoured and humbled to be chosen as Director of Education for the Kenora Catholic District School Board,” says Nicole Kurtz. “With faith at the center of who I am, along with my experiences, knowledge and relationships, I am looking forward to serving as Director of Education and continuing to support our students, families, and schools by providing an exceptional Catholic education. As a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and having spent my career at Kenora Catholic, I feel blessed to be able to serve the system that has nurtured and supported my family and inspired me throughout my life.”

As Superintendent of Instructional Services, Kurtz leads the portfolios of Special Education, Equity and Inclusive Education, Mental Health and Well-being as well as First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education.

In September, Nicole Kurtz will become Kenora Catholic’s seventh Director of Education. She will succeed Paul White, who has been the Board’s Director of Education for over a year and recently announced his retirement for the end of the 2021 – 2022 School Year.
