As part of Indigenous History Month, the St. Thomas Aquinas FNMI (First Nation, Métis, and Inuit) Youth Council invites you to participate in a special experiential walk on the Rotary Way Trail. This walk is dedicated to the memory of Chanie "Charlie" Wenjack and his poignant story.

Event Details:
  • Location: Rotary Way Trail Entrance off Nairn Avenue
  • Date: On display now until June 14 (subject to weather conditions)
Significance of the Event:
The Chanie Wenjack story is a powerful reminder of the painful history of residential schools in Canada. Chanie's attempt to reunite with his family ended in tragedy, leading to the first inquest into the treatment of children in residential schools and sparking ongoing efforts towards truth and reconciliation. This trail walk offers a unique opportunity to engage with Chanie's story and understand the significant impact of residential schools.

Quote from the STAHS FNMI Youth Council:
"We hope this trail walk will help educate and inspire our community to reflect on the experiences of residential school survivors and the importance of truth and reconciliation," - STAHS FNMI Youth Council.
