Additional Vice Principal Announced for STAHS

Principal Kylie Hughes and Vice Principal Mark Richards are looking forward to welcoming Erin to the administrative team, with the new position taking effect on January 31, 2022.

“I am very excited to welcome Erin as an additional Vice Principal at St. Thomas Aquinas High School,” said Kylie Hughes. “She is a dedicated and valued Catholic leader who works hard to build positive relationships with students, staff, families and the entire school community. Her teaching experience, various leadership roles, along with her recent years as a guidance teacher and substitute administrator, will help provide a seamless transition.”

Erin Hercun has over 13 years of teaching experience at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in French Immersion and is the area chair for the guidance department. She has been essential with implementing numerous initiatives at the school and planning for success for all students from grades 7 through 12. She has also mentored new employees and been a substitute administrator for the past four years.

“From the moment you walk through the doors at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, you can feel that it’s more than just a school,” said Erin Hercun. “It’s a community of caring and passionate educators and students who work hard to lift each other up and encourage one another to do their best. I am honoured to serve the school in this new role, working with Kylie Hughes, Mark Richards and the incredible team at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. I am committed to working hard to eliminate barriers, strive for equity, provide support, and encourage our students to be their very best every day to reach their goals.”

A lifelong learner, Erin completed her Bachelor of Education at Lakehead University with a Major in French. She also has Principal Qualifications, Religious Education Specialist, and Guidance and Career Education Specialist qualifications.

Her calm and supportive attitude and the devotion she has for student achievement will help ensure every student reaches their full potential spiritually and academically. St. Thomas Aquinas High School is a close-knit Catholic school community that reflects and celebrates the diversity of Kenora and the surrounding community. The high school has approximately 600 grade 7 to 12 students in Kenora. The school’s rich diversity helps students respect the uniqueness that each person brings to the school, where students are welcomed and experience a quality, inclusive and values-based education in a caring faith-filled school community.
