A class at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys has been exploring the night sky, all while staying in the comfort of their own school. Teresa Bowyer's Grade 3 class is currently housing a planetarium right in the middle of their classroom.

"We had a lot of fun trying to build it even though it didn't work," said Davea Tsentouros. "We were building it together but it kept breaking because we didn't have the right pieces. Our teacher found the right ones and built it over the holidays."

Since then, students have been viewing the night sky with the use of a special projector. After crawling into the dome through a small opening, the lamp is turned off and the ceiling of the planetarium is lit up with millions of stars.

"Who can find a constellation?" asked Bowyer during one visit inside the planetarium. The Big Dipper was the easiest to find for many of the students.

While learning about the stars was a significant part of the project, Maggie Romas explained what else she learned from the experience.

"I learned that triangles are one of the strongest shapes. We watched a video about it and then built the planetarium out of only triangles pieces," she said.

The planetarium will stay assembled in the classroom for the rest of the year. The students are hoping to use it to raise money for a trip to Winnipeg.

"We're hoping we can collect money from other classes that want to go inside our planetarium and raise enough money to go to the real Planetarium in Winnipeg during the Kids Festival in June," said Kale Ouellet.
