With exams just one week away, students at St. Thomas Aquinas High School we're given a fun opportunity to de-stress with a variety of activities today including yoga, puppies, art, food, music, prayer, a drumming group and information booths.
"We brainstormed how we could best help the school and we came up with this Wellness Day," said Grade 10 student Katie Scutt.
Scutt is part of the We-School team which organized the event with the help of Learning Resource Teacher Kara Orr. The aim was to have a number of fun activities giving students a chance to relax before heading into the exam break.
"Students with all different types of personalities can de-stress in all different types of ways, we tried to compensate for everyone and I'm really happy with how it turned out. It seems like the school is really participating and getting into it, it's nice to see." said Scutt.
Community partners also set up booths in the foyer. They included the Northwestern Health Unit, the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Kenora Rec Centre and FIREFLY.
"As students are constantly so busy working on assignments, studying for tests, participating in sports and clubs, engaging in social activities and working, it's critical for them to realize the importance of also taking care of themselves," said Orr. "The We-School Team believes the best way to learn about self-care is by taking part in self-care activities."
The Wellness Day took place during the lunch hour with more than 15 activities to choose from.
