Students participate in flag raising on Louis Riel Day on November 16th.

A group of students from École St. Marguerite Bourgeoys and St. Thomas Aquinas High School gathered at City Hall on November 16th to watch the Métis flag being raised on Louis Riel Day.

Students gathered with Kenora Métis Nations people, the Mayor and City Councillors and community members to watch the flag being raised. Kenora Metis Council President, Joel Henley, led the group in prayer and talked about the impact Louis Riel had on the Métis people of Kenora.

Metis Flag being raised "The students in my Social Studies class have been studying flags as symbols of nation," says Teacher, Jodi Cooke Fenelon, from SMB. "For my students, it was the first flag raising many had experienced, and they enjoyed participating in the event. It was nice to see the students wearing their Métis sash with pride. "
