Family Day weekend

Fishing DerbyHundreds of young anglers and their families flooded the ice in front of Beatty Park on Sunday, February 18th to celebrate the Family Day weekend.

St. Louis School hosted the derby which welcomed families from the school community for a fun day of ice fishing. In total 200 holes were dug.

The weekend was also license-free fishing weekend, meaning anyone could fish on Lake of the Woods without needing a license issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. The MNRF also provided fishing rods for the event so everyone could participate.

St. Louis School Fishing Derby Fortunately, excellent weather conditions saw everyone drop their lines in the water to see who could lure in the catch of the day, with a first place prize of $500 up for grabs.

There were plenty of additional prizes, thanks to the generosity of many local businesses and families.

Overall the event was a big success, with families having a blast out on the ice enjoying the fishing and a barbecue.
