There was a wide variety of moccasins showcased this week at the Kenora Catholic District School Board as staff and students participated in Rock Your Mocs!
This morning (November 17th) St. Thomas Aquinas High School hosted a Rock Your Mocs Assembly in the gym with a prayer, drumming and singing performance by the TA Singers.
Sheila White, Anishinaabemowin Teacher, talked about the initiative, "Rock your Mocs provides opportunities to expand cultural empowerment, awareness and celebrate the traditions of First Nation, Métis and Inuit peoples. It is a day to wear your moccasins with pride, stand together and recognize our individuality and uniqueness and honor the footsteps of our ancestors and peoples worldwide."
In its 6th year, Rock Your Mocs, is an international movement founded by Jaylyn Atsye of Laguna Pueblo, New Mexico, USA, and with the help from moccasin telegraph, smoke signals and social media it has spread across Turtle Island to other countries.
