2018 Director's Award of Excellence for Catholic Education

As part of a long-standing tradition, one Director's Award of Excellence was provided to a student from each school within the Kenora Catholic District School Board in June at the school's graduation celebration.

"These awards are presented to students who demonstrate excellence in education by excelling in academics, arts and athletics, and show exemplary behaviors such as empathy, kindness, compassion and respect for their peers and teachers," said Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education.

St. Louis School's, Brooklyn Peters was one of the students honoured this year. "I was surprised to get the award, and it makes me feel like a good student, she said."

Teagan Tom from Pope John Paul II School also received an award. "I was honoured to be picked for the award," said Teagan. "I was happy and smiling when my name was called."

Teagan is heading to St. Thomas Aquinas High School for Grade 7 in the fall and reflects on her time at Pope John Paul II School. "I am excited to go to a new school, but I'm also a little sad because I've been at this school since Junior Kindergarten. One of my favorite memories is getting to perform in the musical Get in the Game. I'm going to miss the teachers, staff and the playground. This is a special school with lots of nice kids and staff."
