Celebrate the Fall Feast

Little picnics and gatherings popped up everywhere in the gym at St. Thomas Aquinas High school as students gathered to share food and celebrate the traditional Fall Feast on October 6th. Steaming bowls of soup, fresh fruit and buttered bannock was served to everyone.

The event began with an opening prayer by Elder Dorothy Indian followed by traditional drumming on the board drum which was led by Jason Williamson. Glen Seymore was the Master of Ceremonies.

Aboriginal Resource Teacher, Cassidy Babiachuk talks about the team that works to plan a feast. "It's a complete team effort and we have an amazing team at the KCDSB that works behind the scenes to host these large events. Our team completes the sacred preparations, prepares the food and serves the food in addition to so much more. Everyone works together to bring these events to our students and our school communities."

Grade 9 student Dakara McDonald talks about her role as a server. "I'm really proud to serve the food. It's a great feeling. The Fall Feast is an important time because it allows people to know our culture and explore our traditions."

Hundreds of students from across the Catholic Campus attended the Fall Feast. Students attended from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Pope John Paul II School and École Ste-Marguerite Bougeoys.

Thank you to the many, many people that prepared the food and worked together to bring these meaningful events to KCDSB students.
