Saints Boys Varsity Hockey Team

Our Saints Boys Varsity Hockey Team is coming home from OFSAA with their heads held high after being defeated in the quarter final. The Saints played against the #3 seed St Mary's Crusaders. The Crusaders struck in the first period, after being turned away a dozen times by the quick glove and focus of veteran tender Brandon Scott. The Saints retaliated quickly when veteran Skylar Lentz scored, assisted by Alternate Captain Garrett Dearborn. It was a tie game going into the second. Unfortunately, the second frame was an opportunity for the Crusaders to prove they had earned their high seed. They had scored 5 unanswered goals before the flood. Captain Jonathan Kipling and veteran forward Matt Prouty made things extremely difficult along the boards, but the Crusaders just kept finding their way back into the Saints end. In the final frame the Crusaders were kept to just one goal. The loss meant the end of the Saints OFSAA journey. Despite the defeat, there was an air of pride and sportsmanship as the Saints had just made Saints Hockey history ~ this week marks the first time a Saints hockey team has made it out of pool play at OFSAA.

The semi-finals added some additional excitement as the Saints had their predictions come to fruition. Both of the teams who defeated the Saints, the 4th seed Belle River Nobles (pool play), and the 3rd seed St Mary's Crusaders (quarterfinal) are facing off for the gold medal game. There is no shame in losing to the top two teams in the province. Go Saints!
