Grade 6 Soccer Jamboree

Over 100 Grade 6 students from Pope John Paul II school, École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys and St. Louis school gathered on the athletics fields of St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Friday, September 23rd for the Soccer Jamboree. Over the past few weeks, the students have been practicing their soccer skills in their gym classes in preparation for the event. There was a girl's division and a boy's division and all the students were mixed onto teams.

Megan Derouard, Active Living Lead talks about why the event is important, "these types of sporting events provide a great opportunity for our Grade 6 students to meet their peers in the other Catholic schools before attending St. Thomas Aquinas High School in the fall. It also allows them to just be kids and have fun. So much of a student's day is structured through academics and this allows them to learn through sports and play. It was an amazing day."

Although a few students were nervous about the Soccer Jamboree they were all smiles on the bus ride home at the end of the day. One student was noted as saying, "I think I made potential friends for next year."

A very special thank you to all of our volunteer coaches and parents for attending the event.
