Grade 6 students Ella Hillhorst and Shaye Symonds along with their math teacher Kristy Orr from St. Louis School presented a check to the Red Cross today for $511.05. The check was presented to Elizabeth Playfair the Community Services Coordinator for the Red Cross.

Kristy along with the help of many students spearheaded a hat day on May 13th to raise money for the relief efforts for the people impacted by the devastating wildfires in Fort McMurray Alberta.

Shaye talks about why the initiative was important. "This was important because it was so tragic and we really wanted to do something to help. I feel very bad for the people in Fort McMurray because I couldn't imagine this happening in Kenora. It would be a terrible feeling to leave your house and all your things behind and never be able to see them again."

Ella is not the least bit surprised by how much money the school raised. "I'm not surprised at all that we were able to raise over $500 in a day from St. Louis School. I'm proud of our school. This is God's Little School with a Big Heart and we can do amazing things."

A very special thank you to all the families and community members that supported St. Louis School's fundraising efforts.
