St. Louis School hosted their Jump Rope for Heart Award Ceremony last Friday to celebrate the school achieving $3,000 in donations for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The school's fundraising happened in February but the school waited until April to have their celebration.

Principal Trudy Cederwall was unrecognizable to the delight and cheers of the students when she stepped out in front of the full gym. She volunteered to take a few pies in the face as a prize for the top fundraisers and was dressed from head to toe in goggles, hair net, a full rain suit and flippers. The students roared and cheered when four students had the chance to throw a pie in their principal's face. "It's just a lot of fun for the students," says Trudy Cederwall. "At our school it's important that we teach our students to look beyond our school and reach out into the community to help others. I'm really proud of our school for their enthusiasm and support in raising funds for heart disease and stroke research."

As part of the celebration Jay Cortvrient's beard was offered up to be trimmed off as a top prize. Jay is the board's Social Worker and a parent of two children at St. Louis School. Jay had been growing his beard since November and was quite happy to see it go. Grade 3 student Brody Boychuk had the honours of cutting Jay's beard off. Brody was a little nervous about this responsibility and had a helping hand. Brody was a top contributor to the school's fundraising efforts and was able to contribute a $575.00 donation from his family's business.

A very special thank you to all the students, families and teachers for their continued support of community events and charities. Thank you to Jay and to Trudy for being such great team players and volunteering themselves for this celebration. The students loved it!
