Pope John Paul II School students to the rescue! The school recently hosted a Super Hero Day to raise money to support the relief efforts for the people impacted by the wildfires of Fort McMurray. The school raised $195 which was donated to the Red Cross.

The students created posters to communicate the initiative. Grade 5 student Emma Dennis talks about the fundraiser. "Our Anti-Bullying Group decided to raise money to help the people in Fort McMurray. Everyone was asked to bring one dollar to school and dress up like a Super Hero because we wanted to be their Super Heroes. We felt this was important because even if you don't have that much, they still need it more."

It is important to offer our help, says Makayla Vandenbroere, grade 5 student. The Fort McMurray residents lost a lot in this fire. They lost pets, homes and their clothing. They can use all the help they can get and the money can be used to buy food, water and supplies. It is important for us to give what we can in order to help."

"When I first heard about the fire I was really scared that it was going to keep growing until it reached us in Kenora and we would have to evacuate, says Emma. "I was also sad for al the people who lost their homes. I'm really glad that we could help the people in Fort McMurray. "

A special thank you to all the student at Pope John Paul II School for organizing this fundraiser.
