Collective Glass MuralÉcole Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys unveiled their collaborative glass art mural today (May 25th). Student representatives were present from each classroom to see the mural unveiled in a special celebration. The project was the result of an Artist in Residence project through the Ontario Arts Council.

Local artist Holly Ann Friesen led the school through the creative project, and talks about the process, "I visited each classroom and we talked about the 7 Healthy Habits and the Leader in Me Philosophy that is happening in the school. Each child drew a picture of what they would like the concept to be. It was a joy for me to work with the students.

320 students from the school were involved in every aspect of the mural's creation from design concepts to the creation of the project. Many students worked on the project during their recess breaks.

A very special thank you to Linda Boivin for applying for the grant and bringing to life a favorite childhood memory she had of creating a collaborative art project when she went to school, as well as Gerard Dufresne for safely mounting the mural.

Here is a short video interview with Holly Anne Friesen with SHAW TV:

Grade 6 student Caleb Attrux talks about his involvement, "I think everyone who contributed, no matter what they did, even if it was the smallest bit of work really helped a lot. I helped draw out some of the sketches on the wood and I also helped place the glass on the mural. My favorite part was definitely at the start to see how the mural was going to look and planning it out. I feel happy that our school was able to work together to accomplish amazing things like the mural. I'm really proud to see the mural displayed in our school."

Anwyn Friesen Kroeker and Ella Kyle were both part of the project. It was fun to make the shapes with the glass and I helped with some of the grouting too. We worked on the project every day on our recess," says Anwyn.

"My favorite part was cutting the glass pieces to make shapes," says Ella. "It looks really nice and I'm happy that it's here in our school. To me, the mural means synergizing."
