Kindergarten student paints pictureIn November the KCDSB launched a contest inviting people to share their favorite memories of Kindergarten. The KCDSB team had a great time reading all the Kindergarten Favorite Memories that were submitted.

There were so many wonderful and might we say, funny, memories that were shared with us.

Tammy Bush, Learning Coordinator and Early Years Lead talks about reading the entries "I really loved reading all the entries. So many of the entries brought up memories for me too when I went to Kindergarten. I really liked how clear the Kindergarten memories were of people in their lives who left a footprint on their hearts."

The team recently did a draw and the winners of the contest are as follows:

First Prize - Janis Lindsay

Janis won a Home Digital Family Photo Shoot donated by Photographer David White. On behalf of the KCDSB team - Thank you David White!

Janis' Favorite Memory: "Kindergarten can be a very scary time for a little munchkin, I know that I was very nervous heading to school. The one special memory that I have was meeting the principal, Mr. Stevenson, for the first time. Mr. Stevenson came up and introduced himself to me and I must have had a terrified look on my face because he stopped what he was doing, sat down and asked me if I knew what a principal did. I replied "no", and he let me know that the reason he was called the princiPAL was because he was going to be my PAL. I remember thinking that I now have my first friend at school, he set my mind at ease and turned coming to school into a fun thing and nothing scary at all."

Second Prize - Therese Niznowski

Therese won a $100 gift card from Wal-Mart to help with her Christmas shopping

Therese's Favorite Memory: "We were singing the song and playing the game "Farmer in the Dell". The little boy who was the "farmer" picked me to be his wife; then I had to pick someone to be the baby etc. etc. Anyway, I had this vague worry at the back of my mind that I had just committed myself to marrying this boy when I grew up. I felt trapped and wondered how I could get out of it. Luckily, my parents set me straight, and I was relieved to find out that I was still a carefree uncommitted 5-year-old."

Third Prize - Teagan Saunders

Third prize goes to our very own Teagan Saunders who is a 4th grade student at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys. Teagan won a $50 gift card for Boston Pizza.

Teagan's Favorite Memory: My favorite kindergarten memories are when our class went to the beach at Coney Island and we played and we went for walks and we had lots of fun it was the best kindergarten field trip ever it was so sunny and nice outside! I also loved whenever our religion teacher would come in and she would bring her puppet Sadie the Squirrel. We all loved it, it made us happy!

Six Kindergarten Memories that were shared through the contest have been chosen to be recorded by Q104 for radio greetings. Listen to Q104 in January to hear a series of Kindergarten Favorite Memories.

A very special thank you to all the people that entered the contest and shared their special memories of Kindergarten. This contest was a lot of fun!
