The finishing touches are just being added to the new natural playground space at Kid Zone Daycare Center at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys. The space should be available to the children sometime in September.

"Our vision for the new space was based on research," says Kelly Williams, Director of Children's Services for the KACL. "In partnership with the Kenora Catholic District School Board, our team designed the space to allow children to take safe risks. This new, natural playground allows for this by including natural elements that children are exposed to around our local area with hills and rocks and woods."

The Kenora Catholic District School Board is really proud of how the space turned out.

"The natural playground design allows children to delve deeper into creating their own imaginative play and experimenting with the different natural elements of the space," says Mary Cunningham, Superintendent of the KCDSB. "The children can learn about the natural flow of water with the meandering brook, take a boat ride, roll down the hill or crawl through the tunnel. Not only that but the space is really visually appealing and supports the overall vision of creating natural playground spaces at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys."

The new playground design was a partnership with the Kenora Association for Community Living and the Kenora Catholic District School Board. The project was implemented to accommodate the play of the younger daycare children. The funding was provided through the Ministry of Education.
