21st Century Learning

21st Century LearningStudent building roboticsOntario's graduates are entering a world that is more competitive, globally connected, and technologically engaged than any other period in history. All around the world, various jurisdictions are exploring how to prepare their students to lead fulfilling lives, be productive citizens, and thrive in rapidly changing, global knowledge-based economies that are driven by technology. At Kenora Catholic the 21st Century skills that we focus on are known as the 6 C's, they include communication, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, character and citizenship.

We've taken a few approaches at updating our learning environments. Classrooms are no longer rows of chairs and desks. By allowing students a multitude of seating and resource options, we're setting the stage for deeper, self-driven, learning. Teachers now welcome technology in the classroom as an excellent resource to help children learn and explore technology.

Students are being introduced to computer programming as early as Kindergarten. We've also begun teaching digital citizenship classes to ensure children use the internet and social media appropriately.
