We Pray for PeaceStatement Regarding Conflict in Middle East
Before you begin reading, the information contained in this statement may elicit strong emotions. Please take the time and space you need to support your own wellness. Resources are included below should you require additional mental health support.

We are deeply saddened by the news of intensifying conflict in the Middle East. The horrific acts of terrorism against Israeli civilians are deeply distressing and it affects not only the people directly involved but also our global community.

As a Catholic School Board, we are committed to fostering understanding, compassion, and peace, especially during times of crisis. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this conflict, and we offer our collective prayers for peace. Let us pray for the students, families, and staff who are directly or indirectly impacted by these tragic events, as we embrace within our hearts all those who have been devastated by war and violence in other parts of the world.

News of war and violence can shake our sense of security, heightening feelings of fear, anxiety, and vulnerability. This is especially true for children and youth.

Mental Health Supports

Student Mental Health Ontario (SMHO) has provided an information sheet for supporting students in response to world events: Ways to Support Students in Response to World Events.
SMHO also offers several resources to support families and staff:
Supports for Parents and Caregivers
Supports for Educators and Student Support Staff
Supports for School and System Leaders

The following resource hub was developed in partnership with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) to align with the Ontario curriculum and may be helpful in discussing, recognizing, and combatting antisemitism: Unlearn Antisemitism

The Kenora Catholic District School Board has a team of regulated Mental Health Professionals who can provide mental health support to students. If your child needs support, please register through our Student Referral Process or by emailing Sue Devlin, Mental Health Clinical Supervisor at [email protected]

We are committed to addressing all forms of discrimination in our schools and workplaces. We will continue supporting our students and staff, ensuring that our communities remain safe and welcoming, while celebrating the richness of diversity reflected in our schools and the dignity of all people.
