The KCDSB Surpasses the $100,000 Mark

Thanks to the generosity of students, staff and school communities, the Kenora Catholic District School Board has surpassed the $100,000 mark in donations for the Terry Fox Foundation. Schools within the board have been participating in the Terry Fox Run since 2000 and since then have collectively raised $105, 580.61 for cancer research.

Quotations:

"Whether it's raising money for global or local charities, supporting animal shelters, collecting food or warm clothing for local initiatives, or serving nourishment to the less fortunate at the local Agape Table our Catholic schools have once again come through in a big way. What's even more important is that the decision to support the Terry Fox Run is solely the choice of each school and I could not be more proud of our schools for collectively surpassing the $100,000 mark." - Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education

"We are very proud and honoured to have had incredible support from the Kenora Catholic District School Board's family of schools. We are so grateful for the generosity of spirit that lives within these great schools and know that Terry's legacy continues, today, 37 years after his Marathon of Hope. Congratulations to all the staff, students and supporters who have helped to surpass the $100,000 milestone! Your support has helped countless cancer patients and is helping us to fund further ground-breaking cancer research." Lisa Armstrong, Ontario School Coordinator, Terry Fox Foundation.

Quick Facts:

  • In 2016 alone, Ontario schools raised more than $5 million for cancer research.

  • Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope in St. John's Newfoundland on April 12, 1980. He was forced to stop his run outside of Thunder Bay when doctors found cancer in his lungs. He died on June 28, 1981 when he was 22 years old.

  • The Terry Fox Foundation continues Terry's mission to raise funds for all types of cancers through the annual Terry Fox Run, Terry Fox School Run, as well as via memoriam donations and planned giving. To date, over $750 million has been raised in Terry's name.

Media, families and the community are welcome to attend the school Terry Fox Run events and help the KCDSB and its schools celebrate surpassing the $100,000 mark! Each school within the Kenora Catholic District School Board will be participating in a Terry Fox Run activity and celebrating the achievement of surpassing the $100,000 mark as follows:
