Thanks to the generosity of students, staff and school communities, the Kenora Catholic District School Board has surpassed the $100,000 mark in donations for the Terry Fox Foundation. Schools within the board have been participating in the Terry Fox Run since 2000 and since then have collectively raised $105, 580.61 for cancer research.

Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope in St. John's Newfoundland on April 12, 1980. He was forced to stop his run outside of Thunder Bay when doctors found cancer in his lungs. He died on June 28, 1981 when he was 22 years old.

The Terry Fox Foundation continues Terry's mission to raise funds for all types of cancers through the annual Terry Fox Run, Terry Fox School Run, as well as via memoriam donations and planned giving. To date, over $750 million has been raised in Terry's name.

Students from St. John School will participate in a rally at Centennial Park. Their wish is to celebrate Terry's courage and drive by studying his quote "Anything is possible if you try." They will take that theme to Centennial Park to raise awareness of cancer research. Rain Plan: Celebrate in the gym and post-pone rally to next available day that weather permits.

École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys and Pope John Paul II School will be teaming up to host their Terry Fox event. Their event will begin with an assembly in the gym of Pope John Paul II School followed by a run/walk in various locations including the St. Thomas Aquinas High School field and trails.

St. Thomas Aquinas High School will be hosting a Terry Fox run that will begin at the school, go down Rotary Trail towards Garrow Park and then down Birchwood Crescent. Following the run the school will be hosting a concession. The school will also be coordinating homeroom challenges.
