The Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB) community experienced an inspiring evening at the recently held retreat in Kenora. Guided by Mariette Martineau, KCDSB’s Religion and Family Life Coordinator, attendees delved into a journey of spiritual discovery and reflection. The event took place last evening at St. Louis Church, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Mariette's presentation was enriched by the insights she shared from her recent spiritual journeys. She used vivid storytelling and captivating photos to help participants feel as though they were part of her experiences, encouraging them to fully embrace the present moment. Her narrative went beyond mere discussion; it was an invitation to symbolically "roll in the mud," celebrating the joy and spontaneity of life. Throughout the evening, a deeper spiritual undercurrent invited each participant to reflect and connect with profound truths.

The retreat theme, based on the teachings of St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Francis, and St. Clare, focused on the challenge to be more loving and inclusive. It urged attendees to "Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide," inspiring a reflection on creating more space in their lives for deeper connections with God and others.
Nicole Kurtz, KCDSB Director of Education, reflected on the retreat’s impact: "These retreats are essential gatherings for our community, offering insights and serving as spiritual anchors. I want to extend a special thank you to Mariette for leading the session and generously sharing her gifts with us, helping to embody the values we strive to uphold in our daily interactions and teachings.”

The upcoming retreat in Red Lake on April 18 will lead into Catholic Education Week, happening May 5-10. This year, schools across the province will celebrate the gifts of Catholic education under the theme "We are Called to Love."

This series of retreats continues to strengthen the spiritual fabric of the KCDSB community, fostering a shared journey that enriches everyone’s understanding and connections.
