The entire KCDSB community came together on Monday, April 25th for a day filled Fish Philosophywith professional development with Master FISH Facilitator Deb Fawcette. Deb led the entire KCDSB staff through a full day of the FISH Philosophy which is a lifelong approach based on a Fish Market in Seattle. Deb taught everyone the four simple but powerful practices that are the FISH Philosophy: Be There, Play, Make Their Day and Choose Your Attitude. The FISH Philosophy is a way to create a work culture built on stronger relationships, connected teams, extraordinary service and higher retention.

Deb shared a FISH Philosophy quotation: "Who Are You Being While You're Doing What You're Doing? This quotation is a powerful reminder that as we go through our day filled with ups and downs it's important to stay aware of how our attitudes and actions can affect others in the moment.

Through connecting back to play and finding opportunities to incorporate play into our days we are able to connect with those around us to create richer and deeper relationships. Throughout the day the KCDSB team brainstormed and shared ideas on how to incorporate the four principles of the FISH Philosophy into the Catholic system.

In the evening the board hosted an intimate session for parents and guardians.

For over 7 years the Kenora Catholic District School Board has been promoting the FISH Philosophy within the school system. The board even gives out annual FISH awards at the yearend system celebration for team members that demonstrate the FISH Philosophy. This training opportunity provided a great refresher on the practices.
