Easter eggs and working with the wax and designing the eggs

Parent teaching students Yesterday Denise Chmeliuk a parent brought all her Pysanky supplies to École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys to spend time with the students teaching them how to make traditional Ukrainian Easter Eggs. "I've been making Easter eggs with my children for many years and I really like the tradition. I think the eggs just look so beautiful and colorful when they are complete."

The tradition involves designing the eggs with hot wax and a tool called a kistka. The eggs are then dipped in a jar of dye giving them their vibrant colors.

Here is what a few of our students had to say:

Kamery: I like the process of making the Easter eggs and working with the wax and designing the eggs. I am excited for Easter."

Marissa: I've never used the dye before and it's very interesting watching the egg change color. I'm going to give my egg to the Easter Bunny."

Challenge: "I like using the kistka with the wax to make Easter egg designs. This is my first time doing this. I'm going to give my egg to my mom."

The completed eggs are visually stunning with their vibrant colors. It's a beautiful Ukrainian tradition. A special thank you to Denise for sharing this gift with our students.
