Barry Kraynyk's Communications and Technology Class from St. Thomas Aquinas Class from St. Thomas AquinasHigh School has done it again. The class competed in a design competition to create the Board's Christmas Greeting for 2016. The design challenge was the student's culminating project.

Grade 10 student Brendyn Donnelly's design was chosen as the first place winner. When the judges reviewed the entries Brendyn's greeting stood out because of the composition he chose and the color scheme. The fact that he chose to include a quotation with the word 'Joy' set his entry apart from the others.

Brendyn talks about his design. "I tried to create a balance between the text elements and the design elements and I designed the greeting in blue so it was different from other greetings. My favorite part of the greeting is the transparent hands as they represent hope."

Teacher Barry Kraynyk talks about the project. "This project provides the students with an authentic experience of what it's like to feel pressure to create a design for a client. In this case the client is the Board. The students are provided with the board's Visual Identity Guide as well as the guideline that the graphic as has to reflect Catholic values and the true meaning of Christmas."

In the first all-male class there were two runners-up that received recognition for their designs. Taylor Cann received 2nd place and Nathaniel Linklater received 3rd place. Each student will receive a gift card.

Brendyn's greeting will be used to represent the Kenora Catholic District School Board as the Board's 2016 Christmas Greeting. Brendyn's greeting will be sent to school boards across the province, the Ministry of Education and the entire KCDSB community. It will also be inserted into the Kenora Daily Miner and News and posted on the board's Facebook and Twitter sites.
