School raises money for Kenora's CT Scanner

St. Louis School shows that a small school can achieve big results. The school community raised $2,449.50 for the Lake of the Woods District Hospital's new CT Scanner. The cheque was presented at the school's Morning Assembly to Jess Rheault, Executive Director for the Foundation, to applause and cheering from the students.

Maureen Frankcom, Principal talks about the fundraiser. "We are really pleased with the results because it was a true community effort. Our staff raised $320 from their casual Friday's fundraiser, the school hosted a hot dog day that raised $400, the Grade 4 CT Improvers raised $534.55 by selling personalized first aid kits and the School Council raised $1, 119 from a fishing derby. Together we were able to donate $2,449.50 to the Foundation."

The largest donation came from the fishing derby fundraiser hosted by the School Council in February. Parent, Karen Richardson talks about the event. "We had a fishing derby and families bought a hole for $10 and the money was given to the school. As part of the fishing derby, we also had a barbeque and a draw. There were lots of community donations, and the fundraiser went really well. We are happy with the results."

Jess Rheault explains how the money will help the foundation. "This money is going to help us reach our goal of $1.2 million. It's great for the kids to be part of something that is big. It's a really big number but each and every one of these students, parents and the teachers that got involved are all part of making sure the CT Scanner is here."

Grade 5 student Matthew Prefontaine is glad the scanner is here. "I think it's important to raise money for the CT Scanner. If we ever need it and we don't have it, it will be really bad."

Kyra Paypom is happy with the results. "I think we did really good and raised a lot. Everyone participated in the hot dog day."

"Thank you so much for getting involved," said Rheault. "St. Louis School has a reputation for being a family school and a great community and they responded in a big way to the challenge. For such a small school it's a great accomplishment."v
