St. Louis School was busy last week as they focused on what Catholic Education means to them in celebration of Catholic Education Week.

"This week lets us pause and explore how Catholic Education guides students not just in academics, but also in the Catholic Graduate Expectations which provide the foundation for our students becoming the young people and adults who will lead our world in the future," said St. Louis principal Maureen Frankcom. "This year's theme 'Renewing the Promise' reminds us that we all have a responsibility to work, to grow and develop Catholic Education, and that we are called to actively participate."

St. Louis School hosted several events including an Opening Prayer Service, a Faith Play Day for Primary Students, a family BBQ, a Book Fair, Media Arts presentations, Science North presentations, a visit to the STAHS Vocal show, a community cleanup, a Showcase of Talent, and a closing Mass at St. Louis Church.

Frankcom said the family BBQ was a big success and a great opportunity for parents to come together to create a strong sense of community within the school. The clean-up also gave students the opportunity to learn a sense of responsibility.

"We began the week by preparing post cards that were shared with the parishioners at St. Louis Church. We also explored the ideas of service and social justice through a literature study surrounding the importance of water," stated Frankcom.

She added that she was very happy with how the entire week went and explained what she hopes students took away from Catholic Education Week.

"I hope they see that their education is a gift, and that it will prepare them for life. This time in their lives is a time to explore learning in many ways, and to develop their talents and gifts. I also hope they recognize that they are called to share their gifts with others, and that our schools, homes, parishes and communities are built through the active participation of all of us," concluded Frankcom.
