École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys Hosts a Mindfullness Event for Families

Mindfullness Event for FamiliesKenora, April 11, 2018 - Families at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys had an evening of mindfulness at the school's Parent Council Mindfulness event.

École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys, Parent Council rep, Ashley Hendy talks about the event. "The mindfulness event was a wonderful opportunity for our families to have dinner together and learn more about how to implement their own mindfulness practices at home. We also explored how to be more mindful in our day to day lives."

The Marquis family took advantage of the opportunity. "I'm glad we attended," says Jenn Marquis. "We learned about mindful practices at home. It's something that we are exploring as a family."

Steve Marquis says they plan to continue practicing at home. "Mindfulness and mediation is a practice so the more you do it the more it helps you."

Mindfullness Event Presentation Caleb and Seth both created a mindfulness jar and felt happy and relaxed while making it. "I like looking at the sparkles," says Seth. "I'm going to put my jar near my lamp at home."

There was a presentation in the Learning Commons with Natacha Boulton and Natalie Logan from the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Mental Health and Addictions Program. Children also had their choice of physical activity in the gym with Megan Derouard, Healthy Active Living Lead for Kenora Catholic or creating mindfulness jars with Jodelle Canfield, Councillor at FireFly Child and Youth Mental Health Program.

The event was funded by the Ministry of Education's Parents Reaching Out Grant.
