Sarah Campbell with StudentProvincial Member of Parliament, Sarah Campbell visited the Kenora Catholic District School Board today. Campbell spent the morning at St. Thomas Aquinas High School where she was able to take in StreetFest 2017. She was then provided with a demonstration of the school's new Anishinaabe Omiinigoziiwin APP and had a chance to learn about the Catholic Graduate Expectations and 8th Grandfather Teaching Mural that is displayed in the school's chapel.

TeacherTeachers Sheila White, and students Dayton and Bryce as well as former student Toni provided Campbell with a demonstration of the language, vocabulary and sound charts included in the new APP.

Campbell commented on the new APP, "I'm very impressive to see the work that is being done at the Kenora Catholic District School Board by the students who volunteered their time to create the APP. The APP is going to help so many people. It's bringing language into the 21st century and making it accessible. I think it's something the Kenora Catholic District School Board should be proud of."

The Anishinaabe Omiinigoziiwin APP is an ongoing collaboration with students, teachers and local Knowledge Keepers and includes the authentic voices of students. It is designed to provide a resource to teachers and the community in the revitalization of the local dialect of the Anishinaabe language of the Treaty #3 area. Students continue to work on the APP, adding new content and language. The APP is targeted to be available by download from the APP store for free at the end of June.
