École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys unveiled their collaborative glass art mural today (May 25th). Student representatives were present from each classroom to see the mural unveiled in a special celebration. The project was the result of an Artist in Residence project through the Ontario Arts Council.
Local artist Holly Ann Friesen led the school through the creative project, and talks about the process, "I visited each classroom and we talked about the 7 Healthy Habits and the Leader in Me Philosophy that is happening in the school. Each child drew a picture of what they would like the concept to be. It was a joy for me to work with the students.
320 students from the school were involved in every aspect of the mural's creation from design concepts to the creation of the project. Many students worked on the project during their recess breaks.
A very special thank you to Linda Boivin for applying for the grant and bringing to life a favorite childhood memory she had of creating a collaborative art project when she went to school, as well as Gerard Dufresne for safely mounting the mural.
