Giant Map of Canada

Giant Map at St. Louis SchoolStudents at St. Louis School had a chance to explore Canada without ever leaving the comforts of their school this week. They just received their brand new giant map of Canada, which takes up almost two-thirds of the gymnasium.

"I think it's pretty cool. It's so big you can actually walk on it," said Grade 4 student Madison Siemens.

The map not only highlights the topography of the country, but also includes things like major highways and roads, as well as natural resources.

Grade 4/5 teacher Patrick Oberle was using the map as a learning tool for his students for a number of different lessons. He explained why he thinks it's a great addition to the school.

Giant Map at St. Louis School "This is a great visual for every class here to physically see what Canada is all about. It's a larger than life map, that's completely to scale. They can feel, touch and see provinces as well as natural resources. They can see the size of our country as a whole as well as the lakes. It's a great hands-on learning tool," he said.

Grade 5 student Nathan Unrau enjoyed finding where he'd been in British Colombia on the map.

"Canada is big. It was neat to see the whole country like this," he said.

The map has been set up for the last few days, as classes each take turns exploring Canada.
