JOINT MEDIA RELEASE

Families in Kenora will have additional opportunities for quality, licensed child care in the fall. The Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB) and the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) are pleased to announce a new partnership with Kenora Association for Community Living (KACL) to open a Kids' Zone Child Care Center at Pope John Paul II School. The 16 licensed child care spaces at Pope John Paul II School will be available for preschool children ages 2.5 to 3.8 years of age.

The partnership supports the Government of Ontario's commitment to create 100,000 new child care spaces across Ontario and vision to locate child care centers in schools to support seamless transitions for children and families.

The Kenora Catholic District School Board and Pope John Paul II School are excited to work with the Kenora District Services Board and Kids' Zone to support families and children as they transition into school.

"A child care center within Pope John Paul II School makes sense for our families looking for quality, safe and convenient child care options" says Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education. "School-based child care centers provide our youngest children with a seamless day, reducing the number of transitions in a child's life and provides comfort and security knowing they are in a familiar setting with their school friends, siblings and caring educators. It also supports busy families with one drop off location in the morning."

The Kenora Catholic District School Board will be retrofitting two classrooms at Pope John Paul II School over the summer to accommodate the new child care center so it's ready to welcome children at the start of the new school year.

"We are thrilled to be expanding our partnership with the Kenora Catholic District School Board to offer services to new families within our community," says Tammy Zurkan, Supervisor, Kids' Zone Lakeside.

If families are interested in the new Kids' Zone Pope John Paul II School child care center they can contact Aimee Foucher at (807) 467-5243 or Tammy Zurkan at (807) 467-5235 for more information.
