Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week Kicks-Off in a Big Way at St. Thomas Aquinas High School
Over 800 post-it notes, with positive messages were posted everywhere at St. Thomas Aquinas High School today to welcome students as they arrived at school. The notes were posted to kick-start Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week and to spread positive messages around the school.
Teacher Katie Jackson talks about the initiative. "It's the start to our anti-bullying week and we thought what a great way to kick-start the week by spreading positive messages around the school. We all care about the kids here. Growing up in today's society our students face a lot of challenges and we thought this would be a great way to spread some love and positive messages and make them feel wanted and show them that we care. I hope our students continue to share the positivity with each other."
"My Post-It Note says, I will Stand Up For Someone Today," says Sarah a Grade 10 student. "It's really nice and unusual to start the school day with these messages. This is a great message for people who are feeling down and it's nice to see how much effort people put into posting these sticky notes. They are really good messages."
Grade 10 student, Zachary's note said Live your Life, Be Yourself. "It was a good reminder to be yourself, be normal, whatever your normal is."
Grade 9 student Valkyrie talked about the experience. "It was nice and unusual. My note said Be Somebody Who Makes Everyone Feel Like a Somebody. To me, it means making people feel better about themselves and not feeling like they are nothing, and unseen. I hope that people take away treating others the way they want to be treated."
St. Thomas Aquinas High School will be dressing in blue for the week and hosting other activities to recognize bullying awareness.
