Small acts of kindness, helping people feel welcome and putting a smile on someone's face is the mission of the Sunshine Team. The Sunshine Team is one of many varied leadership roles and teams within St. John School, a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. So far, the team has made hot drink/treat packages and thank-you notes for their school bus drivers on Bus Driver Appreciation Day and they have also started making special welcome notes for new students. Grade 1 Teacher Shawna Lamme guides the Team. "The purpose of the team is plain and simple. It's to make others smile. When we started meeting, I didn't realize the impact these little moments of kindness would have on the Sunshine Team members. I knew the people who received our little gestures would be happy, but I didn't expect that it would bring so much joy to the team. The students are proud of their work and are overjoyed to be able to do something to brighten someone's day. I'm proud to have the opportunity to support these students to do the little things that have the potential to affect others in such a positive way." Currently, the Sunshine Team has seven members who range from Grade 1 to Grade 5. The students applied to have the Sunshine Team be one of their Leadership Roles in the school. They give up their nutrition breaks to be part of the team and plan their next act of kindness.
