Director Welcomes You to the 2018 - 2019 School Year

As the summer comes to an end and a new school year begins, I hope that you have had time to rest, relax and relish in all that summer has to offer and you feel rejuvenated and ready to start anew. As I plan for the 2018 - 2019 School Year, I am inspired and encouraged by the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario's document entitled ‘Renewing the Promise' - A Pastoral Letter for Catholic Education. This document celebrates the gift of Catholic education and helps guide us to higher ground and the goodness of God, as we carefully navigate an ever-changing world of competing priorities.

This summer was filled with many capital projects, learning opportunities and advancements. Our summer learning program, Wonder Emporium, was very successful. Over 40 students were immersed in literacy and numeracy, in a fun, camp-like setting. We hosted the 16th Annual Volleyball Camp, as well as a basketball camp and a multi-sports camp, allowing students to learn new skills and enjoy time together. The renewal of the playground at St. Louis School is nearing completion and will be ready for students on the first day of school. Finally, the expansion of the Kids' Zone Child Care Centre at Pope John Paul II School is

almost complete and ready to welcome our youngest learners to the Kenora Catholic family.

For the 2018 - 2019 School Year, student success and achievement and deepening our faith are core priorities for us. We have made significant enhancements to our Special Education and First Nation, Métis and Inuit program that will support student achievement and well-being and meet the needs of all of our students. I am also excited to continue our work in developing a culture that is focused on creating meaningful relationships with students, families and community partners.

For me, Kenora Catholic is more than a school system; it is a culture, community and a family. We strive to ensure that every person feels welcomed and valued. We are dedicated to creating a nurturing, warm and inclusive environment where every child feels safe.

We are blessed to have so many passionate and deeply committed leaders, educators and staff who keep students at the very heart of all they do. On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team, it's my honour and deep privilege to welcome all of our students, staff and families to Kenora Catholic. I wish you a school year that is academically successful and filled with renewal and promise.
