Important Notice to families and partners - Kenora Catholic Schools REMAIN OPEN.
As you may be aware from media reports, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing education workers across the province, has announced plans to engage in a full withdrawal of service on Monday, October 7th if an agreement cannot be reached by then.
The CUPE labour action that you are hearing about in our communities and across the province does not impact the Kenora Catholic District School Board, as none of our employees belong to CUPE. All of our schools remain open, and our staff are reporting to work as usual. Access to licensed facilities through our Community Use of Facilities program remains status quo at this time. Student instruction is continuing in our classrooms and, as always, faith development, academic success, and the safety and well-being of students continues to be our top priorities.
At Kenora Catholic, we work with two collective bargaining unions; The Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (OECTA) and the Ontario Public Service Employees' Union (OPSEU). OECTA represents permanent teachers and occasional teachers, and OPSEU represents education assistants, early childhood educators and lunch hour monitors.
As a Catholic school board, we value all of our staff as dedicated, caring, professionals and appreciate the relationship we have with them.
