Student Accident Insurance: Optional Protection for Families
Accidents can happen anytime—at school, at home, or during extracurricular activities. When they do, the costs can add up quickly. Expenses such as ambulance services, emergency dental care, physiotherapy, and medical equipment are not always fully covered by OHIP or employer health benefits. Student accident insurance can help fill that gap.
What Is Student Accident Insurance?
Student accident insurance is optional coverage that helps families manage unexpected expenses related to accidental injuries. It can cover items not typically included under provincial health care or personal insurance—like casts, crutches, or certain types of therapy.
This type of insurance can be especially helpful for families with children who are active in sports, school trips, or outdoor play.
Available Insurance Options
As a convenience to families, optional student accident insurance is available through an independent provider:
Insuremykids® – Offered by Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada.
Phone: 1-800-463-5437
The provider offers a range of affordable plans, including family packages. Coverage is available for students up to age 26. Applications are completed online.
Why Consider Student Accident Insurance?
Many families are surprised by the out-of-pocket costs that can result from an injury. Student accident insurance helps ensure you're not facing these costs alone. Whether it’s an injury on the field, during a school event, or at home, this coverage offers peace of mind and financial protection.
A Voluntary Option
Participation in student accident insurance is completely voluntary. If you choose to enrol, the agreement is directly between your family and the insurance provider. The Kenora Catholic District School Board does not manage or administer these plans.
By planning ahead, you can protect your child’s health and your family’s financial well-being in the event of an accident.
