At the Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB), we are committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for every student. This includes providing specialized care and resources for English Language Learners (ELL) as they develop their language skills and adapt to school life in Canada.
We understand that immigrating to a new country can be both exciting and challenging, especially when English is not your first language. Our goal is to make this transition smoother and more enjoyable for your child.
Our dedicated team of teachers and staff is focused on supporting ELL students with tailored programs and resources designed to meet their individual needs.
Newcomer students who have recently arrived in Canada from countries where English is not an official language are eligible for additional ELL support. This support is available for up to four years after arrival.
When new ELL students register, they are assessed in both English language proficiency and mathematics. These assessments help us create a personalized learning plan to ensure each student feels confident, supported, and set up for success in their educational journey.
