Student Trustee Report
Student Trustee Matthew Favreau provided hisfinal report on St. Thomas Aquinas High School, highlighting accomplishments, upcoming events and service projects for the month of June. Click here to watch Matthew's June Report.

Matthew Favreau introduced Dominique Novelli, Grade 11 and Clareynze Ceria, Grade 10 as the new Student Trustees for the 2018 - 2019 school year. The students will share the role and responsibility of Student Trustee, representing student voice and input at the boardroom table. Click here to read more.

OCSTA Student Alumni Award Presentation OCSTA Student Alumni Award Presentation
Former student trustee and St. Thomas Aquinas High School alumnus, Dr. Anthony Silva, was recognized at the Board meeting. Silva received provincial recognition from the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association with the 2018 Student Alumnus Award. Silva's parents, Carlos and Maria Silva, were present at the Board Meeting and received a plaque on behalf of Dr. Anthony Silva. Click here to read more.

Glimpse into the 21st Century Classroom
Stephanie Sweeney, Technology Enabled Learning and Teaching Coordinator, provided a report entitled A Glimpse into the 21st Century Classroom. Sweeney talked about how technology is focused on digital, financial and cultural literacy, allowing students to prepare and thrive in the 21st century. Click here to learn more.

St. Louis School Playground Project St. Louis School Playground Project
Maureen Frankcom, Principal and a team of parents and educators from St. Louis School provided a report on the $240,000 project to upgrade the existing playground. The new outdoor learning space will include accessible swings, climbing tires, sodded open play areas, a stained-glass shade structure with picnic tables, a sand ship, paths and bridges, a water channel, raised planters, a music wall and an outdoor stage. The Trustees passed a motion to accept the revisions to Policy #13 - Appeals Regarding Student Matters.

Policy #17 - Advisory Council on Aboriginal Education
The Trustees passed a motion to accept the revisions to Policy 17 - Advisory Council on Aboriginal Education.

REPORTS

Retirement of Will Ronnebeck
The Trustees accepted a motion with regret for the retirement of Will Ronnebeck effective July 3, 2018. Trustee Paul Landry read a retirement biography for Will Ronnebeck. Ronnebeck began his career with Kenora Catholic as a Maintenance Tradesperson in May 2006, supporting schools across the system. Read Will Ronnebeck's employment biography here.

Retirement of Tina Sinclair
The Trustees accepted a motion with regret for the retirement of Tina Sinclair effective December 31, 2018. Trustee Anne Sweeney read a retirement biography for Tina Sinclair, Manager of Human Resource Services. Tina began her career at Kenora Catholic in February 2012 and has made significant contributions to the organization since she began serving the board. Retirement of Phyllis Eikre
The Trustees accepted a motion with regret for the retirement of Phyllis Eikre. Frank Bastone read a retirement biography for Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education. After 37 years of dedicated service to the board, Eikre will be retiring on January 31, 2019. Read Phyllis Eikre's retirement notice release here.

2018 - 2019 Budget
Alison Smith, Superintendent of Business Services provided a presentation on the 2018 - 2019 budget. Smith reported that the board is observing an accumulated surplus at the end of the year of $4,260,897 and an annual deficit of $111,326. The 2018 - 2019 budget is in compliance with Ministry of Education legislation.

Borrowing Resolution
The trustees passed a motion to accept the Borrowing Resolution with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for $3,000,000 for the board's operating line of credit. In her presentation, Smith shared that the board is currently using $0.00 of this operating line of credit. The funds have been used from time to time to manage temporary differences in cash flows or to manage short-term finances of small capital projects.

School Council and Catholic Parent Involvement Committee Reports
Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education provided the trustees with a copy of each school's year-end school council reports for the 2017/18 school year. The reports can be found on each school's website.

Special Education Annual Review
Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education provided a presentation on the Special Education Annual Review and the changes that have been made to the Special Education Manual. The trustees passed a motion to accept the 2018 amendments and forward the package to the Ministry of Education.

Report on the 2018 CCSTA Annual General Meeting
Phyllis Eikre provided a report on the 2017 Canadian Catholic School Trustees' Association Annual General Meeting. The Trustees and Director attended the conference in Kelowna British Columbia on June 7 - 9, 2018. The theme of the conference was " I Am the Vine, You Are the Branches." Next Board Meeting
The next Board Meeting of the Kenora Catholic District School Board is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the Catholic Education Center in Kenora with video conferencing available from St. John School in Red Lake. Everyone is welcome to attend. Click here to see when all the meetings are scheduled for 2018 - 2019.
