Wiikondim Feasting and Pow wowWiikondim Feasting and Pow wowKenora Catholic is excited to launch an Audio Book of Wiikondim Feasting and Pow wow just in time to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.

Released in 2019, with over 100 hardcopies sold across Ontario, the new audio version is free. It has voice narrations from Elder Isobel White and St. Thomas Aquinas High School students Kendaaz White and Colton Henley.
The book follows two young boys as they learn about Wiikondim. The two characters look at images taken at feasts and pow wows at Kenora Catholic and ask questions that Elder White answers throughout the book.
Elder Isobel White explains why the book is an important educational tool at Kenora Catholic.

“This book was created to be a learning tool for all people,” said White. “I was invited to an Elders’ gathering to speak about this book, and I said it is important that we have this book written for future generations. I hope that people will understand the significance of how and why a feast is important in the Anishinaabeg way of life.”

Now you can enjoy the book online for free. Click on the image to open up a world of colourful illustrations, real photographs, cartoon characters and a peek into the spirituality of the Anishinaabeg. The book comes alive through the voices of the characters.

Hardcopy versions of the book are available for purchase from the Kenora Catholic District School Board.
